One fact which made all the difference in this world, New Orleans is 6 feet below sea level!
DUDE please stop saying this ..I have got thousands of forwards saying this and its really stupid to make such a comparison.
Mumbai had torrential rains with winds of 50-60 mph and New Orleans had a "hurricane" with winds of more than 150 miles per hour...
And yes Mumbai is above seal level and New Orleans is below sea level as Sonal says...
Its a completely different scenario in the 2 places... So please dont compare..
peggy,
karan good article .when india is been compared with other countries not considering many factors and ill talks take place. for a change this comparison can reaaly boost us up.
i don't understand how sea level can be the cause of increased crime rate in new orleans.
Well said Peggy, why the crime rate is so high?
Its very easy to feel good about oneself like this...However, I dont believe there are no cases of shooting and violence in Mumbai...You've gotta be kiddin....
Also, wats the point in giving a 10 point comparison on the recent natural disaster and one freak comparison of crime rate???Makes no sense and has no context.Dont you think so?
You bet sonal..and isnt it obvious to have an increase in crime rates when the entire city is evacuated and you run helter skelter for life and you see your house drowning and everything just turning topsy turvy..
Sonal and I are Indians too and we are proud of India but both of us love to be practical and see what the situation is exactly...
@Sneha & Sonal, I agree with you been so practical in your views but my point is simple, USA is also a country which has its own alraming death, crime rate & natural disaster, besides been a developed country, when People from other part of our country feels India as unsafe, for them this article helps to feel straight & safe about India. Somehow the total collapse of this FEMA, and the blame game worries about the Nov election, in turn worries Indian economy...
Point is : India can handle pressure better than US.

I cant believe you are saying this...What does India do first, when faced with a problem, it blames it on the ruling party....and the blame game goes on....I have been watching disasters and pressures here for a long time and one thing I know I can say, is that US is way better in handling things when something goes wrong, It may or may not be correct, but every person supports the govt. and each other, with not much corruption at the lower level, which is the root of all problems in India.
Feeling proud of India is natural and in a way easy since we are Indians, but I am secure enough in my pride for India to accpet its shortcomings and move on.
As far as the foreigners feeling safe in our country is concerned, I think people are now pretty aware of our existence and hence know that India is not all danger and terror, but take it for what it is. I know a lot of people here in US who have been to India for a pleasure trip or a business trip and are quite happy with their experience. So it makes me happy, without having to resort to the comparisons in the misfortunes each country has faced!
It is perceived that India can handle pressure better than the US. There are plenty of reasons to this but in my opinion, this is the result of the vast difference in population. India has too many people to care about each and every one. Hence Indians are forced to fend for themselves. This occurs year after year. Hence Indians know what to do. Plus like Sneha pointed out Mumbai has winds of about 50 MPh while here it was about 150 MPH.
The US govt cares about human life. Hence the people depend on the govt. for support which the govt has been doing. We here pay 30% taxes but have ambulances and cops that respond with 5 minutes to an emergency. Traffic here comes to a complete halt to let the ambulance go by. In india, the ambulance fights as much as the other people for right of roadway. Human life is more valued here. Valued enough to actually rely on a system for it. In India, it is faster may be faster for someone to take the patient in his own car rather than wait for an ambulance. If you must look at the problem and look for a solution, start with trying to comvince everyone in India to have just one child.
@Sonal, Did the US People accept the Bush administration? How many times did President Bush been mocked as a funny, iditotic character with his policies and plans in the media (TV, Newspaper..etc)? So US people are happy with such a Govt? Being a Developed country this sort of action made a total funny look of US to the world.
